About Boyette Red Weeping Bottlebush Tree

Bottlebrush will generally mature at around 12-15', if left unpruned.  This particular cultivar, Boyette Red Weeping Bottlebrush Tree,  has a very prounounced,  heaving, draping, weeping habit.  The limbs are very long are remain flexible almost like a rope and will hang to the ground.

The bright vivid red bottlebrush shaped flowers are born at the terminal ends of these streaming branches and also hang..

Butterflies, bees and birds all love it, so it is a nice choice for wild life habitat areas.

Boyette Red Weeping Bottlebrush Tree is a very vigorous, sturdy and easy to grow. This bottlebrush cutlivar will be covered from head to toe with 4-6" Blooms shaped just like a bottle brush, which will hang all over it in the spring and fall.  It will throw some other random flowers at other times of the year.

If you want a weeping head on a single stalk, then let it grow straight up to about 6' then prune the terminal tip and begin forming the canopy.

This particular cultivar was developed by Blasier's Nursery which was located in Manatee County, Florida in the late 1970's.  Don Blasier named it in honor of Bob Boyette, who was his grower and long time friend.  The nursery is gone now and when I called some old friends while researching for this listing, I was sad to learn that the owner and developer of this wonderful plant had passed away a few years ago.  He carefully selected and nurtured this cultivar to encourage its’ draping weeping habit and did a very fine job, as it is a perfect example of the best attributes of the weeping types.  It's a rare find that is not commonly available.

For the best results with Boyette Red Weeping Bottlebrush Tree:

  • Plant in well drained soil in the full sun.  (It will grow in light shade, but does not bloom as heavy).  Provide it with good irrigation until established.
  • Feed with good quality slow release plant food 2x annually and prune as needed for shape. (Little pruning is needed as its ).
  • These are typically grown as single trunk trees wherein a single 'leader' is staked and allowed to grow straight up to 6' or so and then pruned to begin a canopy.  Multiple sprouts from this cut can then be pruned to encourage dense tight growth from the main stalk and a nice full canopy later on.
